Abstract

This research explores the implementation of Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) for teaching Islamic Ethics and Morality in Nigerian tertiary institutions. The paper examines how AI-driven personalized learning technologies can enhance traditional Islamic education methods while addressing current pedagogical challenges. Through detailed analysis of literature, the paper investigates ITS effectiveness in improving student engagement, knowledge retention, and critical thinking skills within Islamic ethical studies. The findings indicate that ITS can significantly enhance learning experiences by providing personalized instruction, interactive scenarios, and immediate assessment capabilities. The paper emphasizes the importance of aligning ITS design with Islamic pedagogical principles and Nigerian cultural contexts to ensure effective adoption. However, challenges such as digital infrastructure limitations, faculty readiness, and student accessibility need to be addressed for successful implementation. The research also highlights crucial ethical considerations, including data privacy, algorithmic transparency, and potential biases in AI systems. The study contributes valuable insights to the growing body of knowledge on educational technology in religious studies and offers practical recommendations for policymakers, educators, and software developers interested in leveraging ITS for Islamic Ethics education in Nigeria.
