Assessment of Manpower Development on Early Childhood Care Development in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria

The study examined the role of manpower development on early childhood care development in Ogun State, Nigeria. Three research questions guided the study. A descriptive research design was used. The population comprised all the early childhood education teachers and caregivers in Ijebu-ode local government area. A total of 33 early childhood education teachers and care givers were selected as sample size using purposive sampling technique. A researcher developed instrument tagged: Role of Manpower Development on Early Childhood Care Development Questionnaire (RMDECCDQ) with 0.96 reliability coefficient was used for data collection. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for analyzing the research questions. The findings revealed that induction, on-the-job training, off-the-job training, workshops/courses, educational seminars/conferences, qualification programmes, teachers were among the needed manpower development for improving early childhood care development. Increase the quality and quantity of teacher output per unit instruction in school; helps to updates teachers with the new development in the pedagogy in the area of new knowledge and skills; averts future death of manpower need in early childhood education; helps equips an individual teacher with new skills were among the role of manpower development towards improving early childhood care development. There was relationship between manpower development and early childhood care development. Early childhood education teachers or caregivers should be given on-the-job training on a regular basis to keep them abreast of the current educational programme and employ trained manpower in early child care and development education system
